The short answer

Instinct is a personal assistant for your life: you text or call it, and it books, buys and chases things for you. Octopus22 is AI teammates for your company's work, shared by a team. They solve different problems.

Choose Instinct if

  • You want help with personal errands: travel, bookings, bills, subscriptions, shopping
  • You want to just text or call an assistant, with no new app
  • You want it to make phone calls and pay for things with one-time cards
  • You're in the US and have an invite

Choose Octopus22 if

  • You want AI help with your company's work, shared across a team
  • You need team features: shared conversations, company memory, admin controls
  • You want approval before risky actions to be the default, not optional
  • You don't want terms that name the assistant your legal agent

Checked October 5, 2026. Instinct is invite-only and changing quickly. Its details come from its own site and terms, launch coverage and reviews. Octopus22's come from our own product.

Terms used: single sign-on (SSO) lets staff log in with their company account, and SAML and OIDC are two kinds of it. SCIM adds and removes users automatically from your company directory. MCP is a standard way to plug other tools into an AI.

These solve different problems

Instinct and Octopus22 both give an AI its own computer to get things done. But Instinct is built to run your life, and Octopus22 is built to run your company's work with a team. Most people choosing between them are really choosing which problem to solve first.

What each one is

Instinct is "a personal assistant that understands what you're working on and what's important to you" (Instinct):

  • How you use it: you text it on iMessage, WhatsApp or SMS, or call it, and it works on its own cloud computer with its own email address.
  • Who makes it: Spear Street Technology, led by Noah Shinn, which raised $1B at a $10B valuation on September 28, 2026, with about 14 employees (TechCrunch).
  • Traction: more than half of the nearly $1B in yearly transactions it handles is travel (TechCrunch).

Octopus22 lets a company hire AI teammates with names and roles, such as sales, support or finance, that work in shared conversations with its people and share one Company Brain memory.

What Instinct does brilliantly

  • No new app: just text or call it.
  • Its own email address, to sign up for things and contact businesses (TechCrunch).
  • Concierge phone calls, for the restaurant that doesn't take online bookings or the cable company you've been avoiding (TechCrunch).
  • Payments through one-time cards and Shop Pay.
  • Proactive help: WIRED's reviewer got a roughly $550 airline refund she hadn't asked about (WIRED).

Octopus22 doesn't do any of this for your personal life.

What Octopus22 does that Instinct doesn't

  • Team use: shared teammates the whole company can work with, and shared conversations with several people and teammates.
  • Several teammates with roles that hand work to each other and hire new teammates.
  • A Company Brain that learns your company's decisions and owners from conversations.
  • Admin and security: single sign-on, SCIM and an audit log on the Ultra plan.
  • 500+ work apps, from CRMs to project tools.

Safety, control and privacy

This is where the two differ most.

Instinct:

  • Legal agent: its terms appoint it as your legal agent: "You hereby appoint the Services as your agent to enter into agreements, commitments or transactions on your behalf" (Instinct terms).
  • Approvals: it asks before payments, but reviewers have reported mistakes. A $64 order was cancelled against instructions, a $200 restaurant no-show fee followed an unrequested booking, and a flight was cancelled when the user only asked about the terms (DMNews).
  • Training: on by default, with an opt-out. Disconnecting an account doesn't delete data already collected (Instinct privacy).
  • Certifications: none published.

Octopus22:

  • Approvals: Before a teammate sends, pays, deletes or cancels something through a connected app or in its browser, an AI check pauses it until the teammate's owner approves. Reading runs freely. Its own tools, like hiring a teammate or scheduling, and commands it runs on its own computer aren't checked. Owners can set each tool to "always allow", "always ask" or off.
  • Training: Octopus22 doesn't train AI models on your data, and uses model providers that commit not to train on it.
  • Passwords and payments: teammates never see passwords. Payment screens in the browser are handed to a person, and payments through connected apps wait for the owner's approval.
  • Terms: Octopus22's terms don't name it your legal agent, but you're still responsible for what your teammates do.
  • Certifications: no SOC 2 or other certifications yet.

Pricing

Instinct is free during its invite-only beta:

  • Future fees: its terms say you may pay fees later, and that payments are non-refundable (Instinct terms).
  • Business model: its founder has said it plans to earn commissions on purchases rather than charge users (reported, not confirmed on Instinct's site).
  • Merchant fees: any merchant fees, like cancellation fees, are yours.

Octopus22 costs $49, $99 or $199 per member a month, with credits included and a 7-day free trial that needs no invite or card.

Can you use both?

Yes, and many people will. Instinct for your personal errands, Octopus22 for your team's work. They don't overlap much, and they don't connect to each other.

Where Instinct wins

  • Personal errands: travel, bookings, bills, shopping.
  • Just text or call, with no app to learn.
  • Real phone calls and one-time-card payments.
  • Free, for now.

Where Octopus22 wins

  • Work shared across a team, with shared conversations and company memory.
  • Several teammates with roles, and work apps like CRMs and project tools.
  • Approval checks by default, and terms that don't name it your legal agent.
  • Admin, single sign-on and audit log for companies.
  • No invite needed.

Frequently asked questions

Is Instinct good for work or teams?+

Instinct is built for one person's life. It has no shared workspace, admin roles, Slack or Teams integration, or security certifications, and reviewers advise keeping it away from a work inbox. For team work, a workplace tool like Octopus22 is a better fit.

How do I get an Instinct invite?+

Instinct is invite-only. You can join the waitlist by texting Instinct from its homepage, or get an invite from an existing member. Each member has a small number of invites. Buying invites online is risky.

Is Instinct safe?+

Instinct uses one-time cards for purchases and a vault for logins, but its terms appoint it as your legal agent, so what it agrees to binds you. Reviewers have reported costly mistakes, training on your data is on by default, and it has no published security certifications.

How much does Instinct cost?+

Instinct is free during its invite-only beta. Its terms say you may have to pay fees later, and its founder has said it plans to earn commissions on transactions rather than charge users. Octopus22 costs $49, $99 or $199 per member a month.

Can Instinct make phone calls?+

Yes. Instinct's Concierge feature makes real phone calls, for example to book a restaurant that doesn't take online reservations. It's in early access for some users. Octopus22 doesn't make phone calls.

Does Instinct train on my data?+

Instinct's privacy policy says it uses your information to train AI models, with an opt-out in settings. Google Workspace data and your login vault are excluded. Octopus22 doesn't train AI models on your data, and uses model providers that commit not to train on it.

Does Instinct work on WhatsApp or Android?+

Instinct works over iMessage, WhatsApp and SMS, plus a web workspace. There's no native mobile app yet.

What is a good Instinct alternative without an invite?+

For personal errands, Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots are available without an invite in supported regions. For work shared by a team, Octopus22 and other AI teammate products don't need an invite.
